When you stop by Kokomo Auto World to test drive a new Honda or two, be sure the 2015 Honda CR-V is on your list. This SUV was just named Motor Trend’s SUV of the Year for the 2015 model year. Many things were changed on the CR-V including design, engineering, performance, efficiency and safety features.
Engineering and Performance
Honda revised the 2015 CR-V’s powertrain by installing a 2.4-liter “Earth Dreams” engine with direct injection and a lighter, die-cast aluminum block. The new engine makes 185 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 181 pound-feet of torque at 3,900 rpm. While the horsepower remains the same, the peak amount does come in 600 rpm earlier. The torque increased from 163 pound-feet of torque.
The engine is backed by a continuously variable transmission with a torque converter and “G-design Shift Logic” to get rid of the feeling of driving with a rubber band as the link from the engine to the wheels.
While there is no IIHS test as of yet, engineers supposedly reinforced the 2015 model year’s cab with hot-stamped high-strength steel; and the company fixed the engine compartment crash structure. The CR-V also features — depending on the trim level — collision mitigating braking support, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning and adaptive cruise control.
According to Motor Trend, it could cost you up to $35,000 for cost of ownership over five years. This is less than the class average. Plus, the CR-V has an excellent resale value.
